It brought smoother rounded edges, a kickstand that folds almost flat for drawing, and a battery that was rated far longer than the Pro 4’s.

Today, most Pro 5 units in Singapore are well over seven years old. Surface Pro 5 battery not lasting or swelling
The Pro 5 was known for good battery life when new, which makes the drop more noticeable now. Many owners tell us their Pro 5 barely lasts a couple of hours, or switches off suddenly with charge still showing. At this age, battery swelling is also more likely. If the screen is lifting or you can see a gap at the edge, stop charging and bring it in quickly before the pressure cracks the display.

The Pro 5 display is a single fused unit of glass and panel, so any crack means replacing the whole screen. Because the device is older, the original adhesive is often brittle, and an experienced hand matters when removing the damaged screen. After fitting the new display, we test touch and pen input across the whole screen.

Surface Pro 5 not charging
Like the Pro 6, the Pro 5 charges only through the magnetic Surface Connect port. There’s no USB C to fall back on. A frayed charger cable or worn magnetic tip is the most common cause. We test with a known good Surface charger first, then check the port and battery if needed.

The Core m3 and i5 versions are fanless, while the i7 has a fan. On i7 units, years of dust can make the fan noisy and the device hot. On the fanless versions, heavy use in Singapore’s heat can cause slowdowns. We’ll tell you whether it’s normal for your version or a real fault.

Is the Surface Pro 5 Still Worth Repairing?

This is a fair question for the Pro 5, and we’ll give you a straight answer. The Pro 5 doesn’t officially support Windows 11, and Windows 10 has reached the end of its support. That means no more regular security updates.

Both share model number 1796. Go to Settings > System > About and check the processor. A 7th gen Intel chip means Pro 5, and an 8th gen chip means Pro 6. If your unit is black, it’s a Pro 6.

5. Can the Surface Pro 5 run Windows 11?
Not officially. The Pro 5’s 7th gen Intel chip isn’t on Microsoft’s supported list for Windows 11. We’ll discuss whether a repair still makes sense for how you use it.

6. My Surface Pro 5 won’t charge. Is it the battery?
