What Can and Cannot Be Fixed

This is the most important thing to understand about Face ID repair and most shops do not explain it clearly.

Face ID works through a TrueDepth camera system made up of several components including the dot projector, infrared camera and flood illuminator. These components are linked to your iPhone’s logic board at a hardware level.

What we can fix:

If the issue is caused by a damaged flex cable, a loose internal connection, misalignment of the Face ID assembly, or damage to surrounding components from a drop or a previous repair, we can address this and restore Face ID function in most cases.

What cannot be fixed at any third party shop:

If the TrueDepth sensor module itself is physically damaged or has failed completely, Face ID cannot be restored by any independent repair provider. This is not a limitation of LYK specifically. It applies to every repair shop outside of Apple’s own service centres. In this situation, your iPhone continues to work normally using your passcode. We will tell you this upfront after the diagnostic if it applies to your device, before any work begins and before any charges.

Signs Your iPhone Face ID Needs Attention

  • Face ID not recognising your face: Fails consistently across different angles and lighting. Not a software issue if it has been happening for a while regardless of resets.
  • Face ID disabled or greyed out in settings: Usually triggered after a drop or a screen replacement done elsewhere. Often points to a connection or assembly issue that we can investigate.
  • Face ID works only sometimes: Intermittent recognition that gets worse over time. Can indicate a sensor alignment issue or a failing component.
  • Cannot complete Face ID setup: If the setup screen gets stuck or fails repeatedly after a reset, there is likely a hardware fault with one of the TrueDepth components.
  • Face ID stopped working after a screen repair: One of the most common reasons people come in. If the previous repair disturbed the Face ID flex cable or assembly, we check and address that specifically.

Our iPhone Face ID Repair Process

  • Diagnostic Assessment: We run a full check on all Face ID components to identify exactly what is causing the issue and whether it is repairable. This happens before any work begins. If the fault is not repairable at our level, we tell you that clearly and no repair charge applies.
  • Transparent Quote: Once we know what is involved, you get a clear upfront price. No hidden charges and no work starts until you agree.
  • Repair or Realignment: Depending on the fault, we either realign the Face ID assembly, address connection issues, or replace the specific component that is failing. All work is done with precision given how sensitive the TrueDepth system is.
  • Testing and Calibration: After the repair, we test Face ID across multiple conditions including different lighting and angles, and run multiple unlock attempts to confirm it is working consistently before handing your phone back.
  • Warranty Coverage: All Face ID repairs come with warranty on parts and workmanship.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What causes Face ID to stop working on my iPhone?
The most common causes are physical damage from a drop, a screen repair that disturbed the Face ID assembly or flex cable, water exposure, or a failed TrueDepth component. In some cases a software glitch is the cause, which we rule out during the diagnostic before looking at hardware.

2. Can Face ID be repaired at a third party shop?
It depends on what is causing the fault. Connection issues, misalignment, and flex cable damage can be repaired. If the TrueDepth sensor module itself has failed, it cannot be restored at any third party shop including ours. We will tell you which applies after the diagnostic, before any work starts.

3. How long does iPhone Face ID repair take?
Most repairs are completed within an hour. We give you a time estimate after the initial diagnostic so you know exactly what to expect before we begin.

4. Will Face ID work exactly as before after the repair?
In most cases yes. Once the fault is correctly identified and addressed, Face ID should recognise you consistently across different lighting and angles. If there are any limitations after the repair, we will tell you upfront.

5. How much does iPhone Face ID repair cost in Singapore?
Pricing depends on your iPhone model and what specifically needs to be done. We give you a clear quote after the diagnostic before any work begins. WhatsApp us your model and we will give you an initial estimate.

6.Will my data be affected during the repair?
No. Face ID repair is a hardware component fix and does not affect your stored data. We still recommend backing up your device before any repair as a general precaution.

7.What if Face ID cannot be fixed?
We tell you clearly after the diagnostic if the fault is not repairable at our level. No repair charge applies in that case. Your iPhone continues to work normally using your passcode.

8. Do you offer walk-in service for Face ID repair?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at all four branches at Tai Seng, Jurong, Woodlands and Bugis. Doorstep service is also available islandwide if coming in is not practical. For other iPhone issues beyond Face ID, our iPhone repair in Singapore page covers everything we handle.

9. Does Face ID repair come with a warranty?
Yes. All Face ID repairs at LYK Repair come with warranty coverage on parts and workmanship.

10. Which iPhone models do you support for Face ID repair?
We cover iPhone X, XS, XS Max, XR, iPhone 11 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 16 series and iPhone 17 series. Not sure about your model? WhatsApp us and we will confirm straight away.
